X Video Won't Download?
Read the message under the box – it tells you what to do
Most failed downloads have one of five causes: the link is not a single post (a profile or a broadcast), the post was deleted or its account is protected or suspended, X shows the post only to logged-in adults, the post has no video, GIF or photo, or the browser you use – often an app's built-in browser – cannot save files. The message under the box names the cause; the fixes are below.
Fix it in four steps
- Read the message. It says what went wrong, for example that the link is a profile or that the post was deleted, and lists what to try.
- Copy a fresh link. Open the post itself on X, tap Share → Copy link and paste that link – not a profile, list or search link.
- Use a regular browser. If you are inside the X app or another app and nothing is saved, open the page in Safari or Chrome: the “Download not starting?” panel that BirdGrab shows in many app browsers has a Copy link button for this.
- Try again later. If the message says X did not answer, wait a minute and tap Try again.
Messages that need another link
Some links can never be downloaded, whatever you try:
- Profile links (x.com/name) and broadcasts or Spaces: open one post and copy its link.
- Deleted posts and posts from suspended accounts: the files are gone from X too.
- Posts of protected accounts: only their approved followers can see them.
- Posts X shows only to logged-in adults (sensitive media): BirdGrab does not fetch them.
- Posts with only text or a link preview: there is no video, GIF or photo to save.
The download starts but no file appears
Open the browser's download list: a failed or paused download is marked there and can be restarted. Make sure the phone has enough free storage.
On iPhone, a page can only save a file shortly after a tap: if the button changes to “Tap again to save”, tap it once more. In apps' built-in browsers on iPhone, BirdGrab loads the file first (“Please wait…”) and then opens the share sheet – choose Save Video or Save to Files. Where that is not possible, and in apps' browsers on Android, a “Download not starting?” panel appears with a Copy link button: paste the link into Safari or Chrome and the page opens with your post.
When X does not answer
Messages such as “X took too long to answer” or “X didn't give us this post just now” are usually temporary. Tap Try again after a moment; if it keeps happening, check that the post opens on x.com without logging in.
Messages and what to do
| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| This is a profile link | The link opens an account, not a post | Open one post and copy its link |
| This post was deleted | The author removed the post | Look for a repost with the same video |
| This post is from a protected account | Only approved followers can see it | It can't be downloaded here |
| X shows this post only to logged-in adults | X marks it as sensitive media | It can't be downloaded here |
| This post has no video, GIF or photo | Only text or a link preview | Open the post or reply that has the video |
| X took too long to answer | A temporary problem at X | Tap Try again in a minute |
Download problem questions
Why does it say the post has no video although I saw one?
The video may belong to a quoted post, a reply or a linked site. Open the post that actually contains the video and copy its link.
Can I download a live broadcast or a Space?
No. Broadcasts and Spaces are streamed live; only videos posted as normal posts can be saved.
Why doesn't anything happen when I tap the button in the X app?
Apps' built-in browsers often cannot save files. On iPhone, BirdGrab opens the share sheet instead once the file has loaded; otherwise tap Copy link in the “Download not starting?” panel and open the page in Safari or Chrome. If neither appears, use the app's option to open the page in your browser.
Can I download from a protected account if I follow it?
No. BirdGrab only sees what is public on X and never uses your X login.
The download stopped halfway. What now?
Start it again from the download list or tap the button again. Large videos need a stable connection.
Is there a limit on downloads?
No daily limit, but many requests in a few seconds are paused briefly to keep the service fast for everyone.
